Inday Sara eyeing Defense post; vows to work ‘in harmony’ with Bongbong

Davao City Mayor and now incoming Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio is interested in heading the Defense Department, according to her spokesperson.

In an interview over ANC’s Headstart, Liloan, Cebu mayor Christina Frasco was asked about Duterte-Carpio’s preffered role under the Bongbong Marcos imminent presidency.

“In the past, Vice President-elect Sara has indicated she would be interested in the Department of National Defense, and of course, she’s here to fully support the administration of President-elect Bongbong Marcos,” said Frasco.

Under a Marcos presidency, the Filipinos may now also expect a new era of ‘unity’ where the president and the vice president are going to be working in harmony as this has been their message all along, Inday Sara’s spokesperson added.

Describing the feisty mayor as a ‘very, very organized and proactive person’, Frasco assured the country that the presumptive vice president will not be the type to complain, but one who acts on problems.

“She has always stood firm on the decisions she has made and she values her independence both as a mayor and a person in politics,” Frasco said.

Mandatory military service for youth

In previous interviews, Duterte-Carpio vowed she will push for mandatory military service for all Filipinos aged between 18 and 25 years old if elected vice president.

“Gagamitin ko ang aking opisina— Office of the Vice President — para kausapin ang ating Congress and the Senate of the Philippines to make military service for all 18 years old, male and female, mandatory in our country,” she said last January.

She said this has been implemented in countries like South Korea and Israel and it will not be just like ROTC where it’s only treated as one subject, or for only a week or a year.

“Everyone, once you turn 18, once you reach 18 years old, you will be given a subsidy. You will be asked to serve our country under our Armed Forces of the Philippines,” Duterte-Carpio added.

Currently, the presidential daughter is leading all vice presidential candidates with more than 30 million votes based on the latest unofficial results from the more than 98% percent election returns.

Both she and Marcos are heading for a landslide victory, and possibly for the first majority president and vice president elected in years.

Direk Lauren sa bagong direksyon ni Liza: ‘It’s her life’

“I had always been told what to do, what to wear, what to say and what not to say. I know this was for my own good. It was to protect me and my career, but it was a career that I had no say in. A career that in many ways wasn’t mine. I didn’t even choose the name Liza. It was chosen for me,” sabi niya.

Minsan kasi it’s just a manner of how you say it. Maybe she meant something else… Kaya lang her being outspoken sometimes, to some people, hindi ‘yun dumadating nang tama,” sabi niya sa panayam na ibinahagi ng PEP sa kanilang YouTube channel.

“But take it as it is, she is just saying that she wants to find her own self and she wants to explore it on her own and we should allow her that because it’s her life.”

“I think the pandemic did a lot to our artists, hindi lang naman kay Liza. Ang dami na talagang napapaisip kung ano talaga yung gusto nilang gawin. ’Yung isolation, ‘yung pandemya, ‘yung shutdown ng network, it really forces us to think about the future in our own decision,” dagdag pa niya.

So we allow her to explore and aspire for something better for herself… Let’s just wish her well because her achievements and accomplishments are also accomplishments for us, especially for those people who helped her in the beginning.”
