Mangga sa ‘Merika? Former Agri Sec Manny Piñol lauds PH ‘mangga’ after tasting mango abroad

Published

Mangoes anyone? Former secretary of Agriculture Manny Piñol will surely tell you that if you want to savor the best mangoes, you should go for the mangoes of Guimaras, Zambales, Cebu or Cotabato!

In a recent post, Emmanuel “Manny” Fantin Piñol, or simply Manny Piñol, shared his unsatisfactory mango experience in California where he is right now.

The agriculture advocate and agribusinessman who recently served in President Rodrigo Duterte’s cabinet as chairman of the Mindanao Development Authority and Secretary of Agriculture a few years back shared his “Mangga sa ‘Merika!experience.

Apparently, together with his buddy, journalist Winchell Campos, they went to a supermarket in Salinas, California to purchase some ‘ulam’ and vegetables. It was there he saw some mangoes (as shown in his post).

He bought two pieces out of curiosity, he said, and tasted it as soon as he got back to the home of his friend, Rose Singco-Maniwang, a nurse from Pikit, Cotabato.

Upon taking some bite of the mango, he blurted out in dismay, “Sus, purya gaba!

He further narrated in his post that it fails in comparison to the mangoes of Guimaras, Zambales, Cebu or Cotabato.

He too shared that they also have Mango Manila from Mexico which he also tasted and it was a far cry from the quality of our Philippine Mango.

The problem with us Filipinos, he said, is that we’re not good in finding a market for our agricultural products.

His suggestion is that we should strengthen our National Food Authority (NFA) and make it a trading and export agency of the Philipines to promote and sell our agricultural and marine products abroad.

It’s our weak points, he said, which affects our vaue chain. “Dyan tayo mahina, promotions and marketing, kaya hindi kumpleto ang ating value chain.”  He added the hashtag #BuhayinPalakasinAngNFA!

Fellow Filipinos commented their own views and xperiences on his post; with many agreeing that PH mangoes are much superior that mangoes they’ve tasted elsewhere in the world.

“Very very true Manny Piñol. Nakatikim din AKO SA New York noon Ng mangga nila pero walang sinabi SA mangga Ng PILIPINAS. Philippines is so blessed with good mangoes.”

“My employer her in HK was a fruit lover and he almost taste different variety of mangoes and he told me that Of all mangoes he tried.. Philippine mangie is the best..He said it was so sweet and juicy.”

“My husband doesn’t like mango . But noong natikman niya for the first time ang Philippine mango, he said that of all the mangoes he tasted in the US, Philippine mango is the best . Now , he added Philippine mango as one of his top 3 favorite fruits.”

Meanwhile, watch this Mango Festival n Guimaras!

“He is a young, fun, chill guy who likes to stay fit and active but has the need to indulge during his downtime, and prefer healthy food choices,” sabi ng CEO ng Visum Ventures na si Mike Hilton, na nagdala kay Koomi sa Pilipinas noong 2019.

Kailangan kasi fit ‘yung character ko since walang [siyang] superpower unlike Darna, so more physical scenes. I do some cardio and talagang kailangan healthy para sa mga fight scenes. Koomi helps me stay healthy, guiltless goodness talaga.” paliwanag ng aktor.
